DICK WHITTINGTON PANTOMIME SCRIPT

This Dick Whittington panto script provides one of Ben’s most winning animal characters. Tommy the Cat is central to the story - and the audience always fall in love with him!

Along with bucket loads of charm there are plenty of hilarious routines, including a crazy conjuring routine for the lovelorn Idle Jack.

Sarah the Cook is a classic Dame role and the invention of Alderman Fitzwarren’s identical twin brother creates inspired opportunities for additional comedy.

A busy, fast-moving story means a busy Chorus and there is some brilliant verse for King Rat. Check out the excerpt below, where “Dick” is rhymed twelve times on the bounce!

CAST SIZE: 9 Characters, plus Chorus.   RUN TIME: 2 hrs plus interval

EXCERPT – DICK WHITTINGTON PANTO SCRIPT

Dick and Alice are falling in love, and King Rat uses Idle Jack’s jealousy to further his evil schemes…

JACK:

Aah! Who are you? Are you King Rat?

KING R:

Whatever makes you wonder that?

JACK:

Your pointy nose and big, long tail?

KING R:

It’s true I am an alpha male,

But I am here to do you right.

JACK:

Then promise me that you won’t bite!

KING R:

Your feral godfather am I.

JACK:

You are?

KING R:

I am.

JACK:

(Aside) He is.

KING R:

(Aside.) I lie.

I know the problems that you face.

JACK:

Of course, you do, you’re on my case.

KING R:

JACK:

KING R:

That Dick,

That Dick!

Has got to go.

So, you –

JACK:

KING R:

To Alice!

Your love can show.

And happily, I have a plan.

JACK:

You do? Well done! Then I’m your man.

KING R:

Tomorrow you must swiftly act,

And from Fitzwarren’s safe extract,

The golden coins he places there.

And when that’s done, you plant them -

JACK:

KING R:

Where?

Must you always be so thick!

You plant them on your rival Dick!

JACK:

KING R:

JACK:

KING R:

I plant them on my rival Dick?

You plant them on your rival Dick!

But that’s a mean and shabby trick.

Of course, it is, now listen, quick!

(Pointing) Who do you see?

JACK:

KING R:

JACK:

KING R:

JACK:

KING R:

(Looking.) My rival -.

Dick!

There with Alice –

Alice and Dick!

Dick, that Dick - he gets on my wick!

Side by side with your favourite chick!

Chittity chat, look at them click!

JACK:

KING R:

Oh, stop it please, I’m feeling sick!

Then pay attention to my shtick!

(KING RAT makes a magic pass and JACK is hypnotised. MUSIC.)

I have you now within my thrall,

You will not deviate at all.

Tomorrow you will do the deed,

And Dick will get the boot!

JACK:

(Dopily) Agreed.

“Ben Crocker`s script provided a strong basis for our pantomime production. With good jokes and a fresh approach to the story, whilst still utilising traditional pantomime techniques, it was a pleasure to work on. The script explained physical gags well, helping our rehearsal process. I’d be keen to work on another of his Panto scripts.”
